Dark Horse Comics will release Yoshitaka Amano: The Illustrated Biography – Beyond the Fantasy  in both hardcover and limited edition deluxe formats on October 10.

French writer Florent Gorges (The History of Nintendo, Vol 1: 1889 -1980) chronicles Amano’s 50-year career. The Japanese artist is a master of fantasy and science fiction art, and is the creator of Gatchaman, Tekkaman: The Space Knight and Casshan. He was illustrator for the Vampire Hunter D novels, worked on the anime adaptation of Speed Racer, and has been both Character Designer and Graphic Designer for the Final Fantasy video game series.

The 328-page hardcover contains nearly 400 illustrations and photos and has an MSRP of $49.99.

The Limited Edition release contains the hardback biography, as well as a 96-page Yoshitaka Amano – Paris Sketchbook photo-essay softcover; a portfolio with region-free Blu-ray (subtitled in English) featuring more than two hours of footage from interviews, talks, and documentaries; mini lithographs; and a signed card from Amano. It is packaged in a black slipcase. MSRP is $149.99.
