San Diego Comic-Con News:  IDW Publishing and SEGA are partnering for a one-shot tied to the upcoming Team Sonic Racing game.  The story is from writer Caleb Goellner (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Sonic the Hedgehog artist Adam Bryce Thomas.  The comic will cross the finish line to store shelves in October.

Team Sonic Racing
finds Sonic and his teammates Knuckles and Tails ready to race on another planet, where they encounter some familiar faces and must stop an old foe from obtaining a powerful new technology.  The story is tied to the Team Sonic Racing video game, which will release on December 31 for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC (digital only).

IDW has both comics and games licenses for Sonic the Hedgehog (see “'So Long Riverdale,' Sonic the Hedgehog Decamps for IDW”).  The publisher is currently releasing a Sonic the Hedgehog series from writer Ian Flynn and various artists (see “'Sonic the Hedgehog' Races Back to Comic Shops”) and will be releasing the Sonic the Hedgehog: Crash Course racing game and Sonic the Hedgehog: Dice Rush (see “Speedy Dice Action Awaits in 'Sonic The Hedgehog: Dice Rush'”).

Sonic the Hedgehog is an enduringly popular property.  Shinobi 7 has a Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers board game planned for release in January (see “'Sonic The Hedgehog' Races to the Tabletop”), and Paramount Pictures plans a movie in the near future, with James Marsden confirmed and Jim Carrey in talks to star as Doctor Robotnik (see “Jim Carrey in Talks for 'Sonic The Hedgehog,' 'Bloodshot' Casting, Sony Has 'Faith,' First Look At Cheetah, 'Animosity' and 'Crowded' Optioned”).
