July comic sales to comic stores jumped 17.37% over sales in the same month last year, behind DC’s "Batrimony" books and new first issues from both Marvel Comics and DC Comics, according to information released by Diamond Comic Distributors. Graphic novel sales continue to lag, declining 9.11% vs. sales in July 2017.
Overall comics and graphic novel sales were up 9.53% in July compared to the same period in 2017.
The overall increase was not enough to pull year-to-date sales into positive territory; comics and graphic novel sales through July are down 1.93%, with comics up 0.76% and graphic novel sales down 8.26% vs. sales in the first seven months of 2017.
Despite the strong month for DC, Marvel remained #1 by about seven share points, undoubtedly aided by the fact that it shipped almost 30 more titles than DC.

The Top Comics by Dollars chart shows almost the same ranking, with some moves due to promotional pricing. Diamond Comic Distributors confirmed to us last month that their dollar sales rankings are done by wholesale dollars, not retail dollars. That means if a publisher offers a promotional discount on its titles, it can move that title down in the dollar sales ranking relative to titles that sell the same retail dollars.
