Dynamite Entertainment is launching a new ongoing Red Sonja title written by Mark Russell (The Flintstones) and drawn by artist Marko Colak (Conan) in February.

Russell’s recent take on the classic Hanna-Barbera property The Flintstones for DC Comics was lauded by fans and critics, earning the title three Eisner nominations (see "The 2018 Eisner Award Nominees").  He plans to reinvent The She-Devil of the Hyrkanian Steppes, pitting her against Tomyris, a conquering warrior queen borrowed from history. Sonja is named wartime ruler of a country set to be decimated by Tomyris.  "I really wanted to write a fantasy title that allowed me to work in some of the incredible stories and themes of ancient history, in particular, the story of Tomyris, the bad-ass Queen of the Steppes," said Russell.  "(A)nd it’s hard to imagine a better character to tell that story than Red Sonja, the bad-ass Queen of Comics."

The first issue features a main cover by Amanda Conner (Harley Quinn) and will also have several variant covers including ones by Joseph Michael Linsner (Vampirella), Christian Ward (Thor), and Frank Cho (Hulk), as well as a cosplay cover.
