Onyx Path Publishing is launching a new tabletop role playing game inspired by the “B-Movies” of the 1950s.  They Came From Beneath the Sea!  will release in 2019.

In They Came From Beneath the Sea!, players take on the role of archetypal characters from back lot horror and science fiction movies, be they rugged war veterans, mad scientists, or blue-collar heroes, confronting alien menaces lurking below the ocean’s surface.  Typical adventures involve defending coastal towns from alien invaders, liberating infested cruise ships, or using alien submarines to take the fight to the invaders’ hidden lairs.

They Came From Beneath the Sea!  uses the same Storypath game system as other Onyx Path role playing games Scion 2nd Edition and Trinity Continuum.  It will be presented as a 200+ page hardcover book that includes full rules and setting background, featuring dozens of alien antagonists representing a variety of bad guys.  A digital version of the book and a three-panel Director’s Screen are also planned.  MSRP has not been announced.

Onyx Path is funding production through a Kickstarter campaign that has attracted $20,686 in pledged support from 385 backers (an average of $53.73 per backer) with more than a month to go.  The campaign includes a retailer-only backer option that includes five copies each of the book and the Director’s Screen, plus pdf copies.  Backer fulfillment is scheduled for August, with release into the trade to follow.

Next year, Onyx Path will also release a sourcebook produced under license for Vampire:  The Masquerade 5th Edition (see “‘Chicago by Night’ Joins ‘Vampire: The Masquerade 5E’”), a role playing game based on the Legendlore comic series (see “‘Legendlore’ Fantasy Comic Book Series Adapted as RPG”), and a new edition of its zombie apocalypse RPG Dystopia Rising (see “The Apocalypse Has Matured in ‘Dystopia Rising:  Evolution’”).
