BOOM! Studios is launching a new monthly Angel series with the surprise release of #0 at comic stores next week. The #0 release is exclusive to comic stores, with a two-week window before digital release. Comic shops will be shipped quantities equal to the quantities ordered of Buffy the Vampire Slayer #4, in which the character will be introduced.
Angel is by Bryan Edward Hill and Gleb Melnikov, with Buffyverse creator Joss Whedon. The issue will ship with two covers: a main cover and a one-per-store "Thank You" variant, both by Mondo artist Boris Pelcer. This will be the first Angel release by BOOM!, which announced that the license was moving last fall (see "’Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Finds New Publishing Home").
Image Comics pioneered the stealth release as promotional tool with the surprise drop of Die! Die! Die! #1 last July (see "Innovative Promotion for Image Launch").
