Heavy Metal will release Ranx: The Complete Collection, by Stefano Tamburini and Tanino Liberatore, in June. The 208-page 8.5" x 11" hardcover will collect all of the stories featuring the character, including "Ranx in New York," "Happy Birthday Lubna," "Be Bop Lubna," "I, Me, Mine Incorporated," "Amen,” and "I, Robot," plus never-before-seen early strips "Ranx The Thug" and "Modern Dance." A 20-page Gallery will include covers, pin-up art, and sketches.
Heavy Metal published the stories in English in serial form, beginning in 1983. Catalan released two English language graphic novel hardcovers in 1984, and Heavy Metal released three trade paperback collections in 2002-2003. The material has never been released in one volume before.
The title character, originally named Rank Xerox, is assembled from recycled copier parts. He was renamed Ranxerox in the 80s after pressure from Xerox over use of its brand name. The title has now moved to Ranx, presumably over similar issues. The material was also controversial because of the character Lubna, who appears under-age and is featured in sexual situations with Ranxerox.
Dark Horse Comics announced a similar volume in 2016 (see "Dark Horse to Collect ‘Ranx’"), but quietly abandoned the project without ever revealing a reason.
MSRP will be $29.99.
