The Comic Legends Legal Defense Fund, a non-profit formed to defend comic retailers in free speech cases, is expanding its mission to help provide relief to Canadian comic retailers impacted by the coronavirus crisis, the organization announced. The step was taken by the organization’s four-member board in a meeting on April 18.

The organization kicked off its support for retailer relief with a $10,000 contribution toward retailer relief.  Along with Kevin Boyd of the Joe Shuster Awards, the organization will also organize online auctions from comic creators, with 100% of the proceeds going toward supporting the hundreds of comic shops in Canada. The effort will operate under the hashtag #Canucks4Comics.

“We’re fortunate to be in a position to do something and we hope to help in some way, so that when things return to normal, those stores, and the people that built them, will still be there for everyone,” CLLDF board member Jay Bardyla said in the announcement.
