DC Comics will introduce a new character, The Monkey Prince, in its upcoming DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration, releasing in May (see “Top Talent on ‘DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration’”). The character will appear in a story by Gene Luen Yang and Bernard Chang, and on a 1-in-25 variant cover by Chang.
The Monkey Prince is inspired by the Monkey King of Chinese mythology and the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West. In the 12-page story, Monkey Prince will battle and team up with Shazam to defeat the evil Dr. Sivana and a Chinese deer demon spirit.
