The 2021 winners of the German Game design awards were unveiled in the categories of Game of the Year, Enthusiast Game of the Year, and Children's Game of the Year. This year's nominees were released to the public in May (see "'Spiel des Jahres' Nominations Revealed").

Spiel des Jahres or Game of the Year was bestowed upon Johannes Sich's MicroMacro: Crime City published by Edition Spielwiese (see "Review: 'MicroMacro: Crime City' (Board Game)"), and brought to the U.S. by Pegasus Spiele.   

Peter Rustemeyer's prehistoric cave painting game Paleo (see "Z-Man Games Unveils 'Paleo' ) was given Kennerspiel des Jahres or Enthusiast Game of the Year. This game was published by Hans im Gluck, and is headed to the U.S. market via Z-Man Games in November.

The Kinderspiel des Jahres or Children's Game of the Year was handed to Dragomino by Bruno Cathala, Marie Fort, and Wilfried Fort. It was published by Blue Orange Games and Pegasus Spiele.
