He drew on his family’s traditions to create a story of Althalia, a young woman who is a bruja, a powerful magic user descended from a long line that goes back to an ancient Mexican indigenous culture. Althalia has spent her entire life learning magic, tutored and supported by her abuela, until a tragedy from her past shakes her world and sets her on a new path.
