Yen Press has announced four new manga licenses, as well as a hardcover collection of its adaptation of The Infernal Devices.
Josee, the Tiger, and the Fish is a manga adaptation of Seiko Tanabe’s short story about the friendship between a young woman who uses a wheelchair and a college student who draws her out of her cloistered world. The original story was published in 1984 and adapted into live-action films in Japan and Korea as well as an anime film that premiered in 2020 and is available in English from Funimation. The manga, with art by Nao Emoto, was also created in 2020 and published as two volumes in Japan. Yen Press will collect them into a single omnibus volume that will be published as a 356-page paperback on August 23 with an MSRP of $24.00. Unnamed Memory, by Kuji Furumiya and Naoki Koshimizu, is a shonen fantasy romance about a prince who has been cursed to never father an heir and the witch he seeks out to break the curse. When he finally finds her, he asks her to marry him. The series is a manga adaptation of Kuji Furumiya’s light novels, which Yen is already publishing under its Yen On imprint, and Koshimizu is the artist for The Isolator light novels (see “Five Manga, One Light Novel, and an OGN from Yen”). Yen will publish the first volume of the Unnamed Memory manga on August 23 with an MSRP of $13.00. Heroine No More, by Momoko Koda, is a shojo romantic comedy of the friends-to-lovers variety about a teen girl whose romantic dreams of marrying a childhood sweetheart go awry. The series, which is complete in 10 volumes, was adapted into a live-action movie in 2015; the film does not currently seem to be available in English. The first volume is scheduled for August 23 and will have an MSRP of $13.00. Gahi-Chan!, by Tirotata, is an adult title about a manga creator and a woman who looks exactly like one of his creators. That’s no coincidence: The woman is actually a yokai who achieves human form by turning artwork into a skinsuit. This series is in the ecchi genre, which is playfully sexy rather than hardcore. The first volume will be published on August 13 with an MSRP of $13.00. Yen also announced The Infernal Devices: The Complete Trilogy, an omnibus collecting Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, and Clockwork Princess, the prequels to Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments. All three are written by Clare with art by HyeKyungBaek (see “Yen Press Announces 2 Bestseller Adaptations”). The hardcover omnibus will be released on August 23 with an MSRP of $35.00.For more great Manga Week coverage, click here!
