Funforge will release Tokaido sequel Namiji in the U.S. via Asmodee on November 30. While a “spiritual sequel” to Tokaido, Funforge’s best-known game, Namiji is a standalone game with its own rules and gameplay mechanics.

In Namiji, players navigate the seas of the Japanese archipelago near the famous Tokaido road while trying to maximize their catch, fishing with a line or a net to fill their racks with colorful fish, and hauling in crustacean traps.  Equipment can be improved at stops.  Players need to contend with the gods of the sea by setting offerings afloat, or fulfilling the gods’ wishes that are revealed during the player’s contemplation with the Sacred Rocks.

Namiji is for two to five players ages 8 and up and plays in about 45 minutes.  MSRP is $44.99.

Funforge originally funded Namiji on Kickstarter back in 2019 (fulfillment is still going on for some countries), raising €639,781 (about $665,000 at today’s exchange rate) from 9,402 backers.

Funforge released a new Deluxe Edition of Tokaido this fall (see “’Tokaido Deluxe Edition’”). Funforge games are distributed in the U.S. by Asmodee USA (see “Asmodee USA Inks Distribution Deal with Funforge”).
