Marvel will launch a new Alien ongoing series by writer Declan Shalvey and artist Andrea Broccardo that will take the sci-fi/horror franchise in a new direction. Shalvey and Broccardo will introduce a new cast of characters, headed up by scientist Batya Zahn who is doing research on a frozen moon when she discovers a new organism in the ice. The first issue will go on sale on April 26, 2023, with a main cover by Dike Ruan and variants by Shalvey, Gabriele Del’Otto, and Alex Maleev.

“I feel like the themes from the films remain quite relevant to today,” Shalvey said in a statement accompanying the announcement, “which makes me feel like we're able to tell contemporary stories set in that iconic universe. I'm very much hoping to channel the mood and atmosphere of those films while doing something new and Andrea has done an incredible job of putting the reader in that recognizable world. With this new series, I think we have a really interesting addition to the lore of Alien.

Marvel regained the Alien license from Dark Horse in 2020 (see “Marvel Comics Acquires ‘Alien,’ ‘Predator,’ and ‘Alien vs Predator’ Franchises”) and launched the first Alien series, by writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Salvador Larroca in 2021 (see “‘Alien’ Xenomorphs Burst Back onto the Comic Scene!”). The current series, by Johnson and artist Julius Ohta, will wind up with issue #6 in February 2023.
