Writer Jeremy Whitley and artist Bre Indigo are the creative team behind a new graphic novel, The Dog Knight, which will be published by Macmillan on May 16, 2023, in two formats, a paperback with an MSRP of $14.99 and a hardcover with an MSRP of $22.99.

The middle-grade graphic novel features a nonbinary middle school student who rescues a dog and becomes the Dog Knight, charged with protecting a magical pact between humans and dogs. The book is the first in a planned series.

Whitley’s series Princeless was nominated for two Eisner Awards, and recently he and artist Emily Martin raised objections to Action Lab use of an unauthorized issue of Princeless as its FCBD comic (see “‘Princeless’ Creators Ask Readers Not to Support FCBD Comic”). He has also written The Unstoppable Wasp, My Little Pony, and School for Extraterrestrial Girls. Indigo, who identifies as agender, was the artist for Meg, Jo, Beth, & Amy, a graphic adaptation of Little Women set in modern-day Brooklyn. Her webtoon Jamie has over 140,000 subscribers on Tapas.
