Following a strategy that made Blood: The Last Vampire the most successful anime release in its history, Manga Entertainment is planning a one-day-only, 24-hour broadcast of the avant garde Production I.G. anime Dead Leaves on the film's street date, September 28.  Back in 2001, Manga streamed Blood the Last Vampire (also produced by Production I.G.) and sold over 120,000 units (see 'Blood The Last Vampire Sets Manga Record').  The Dead Leaves DVD includes the film itself, which runs 50 minutes, plus 30 minutes of bonus features, at an MSRP of $24.98.

With original character designs by the hip Japanese pop-artist Imatoonz, Dead Leaves resembles nothing so much as an ultra-violent FLCL.  The story of an anime 'Bonnie & Clyde' who are sent to the infamous lunar penitentiary known as Dead Leaves, this state-of-the-art anime is rated 17+ largely because of its ultra-violence.  Once incarcerated in Dead Leaves, the film's protagonists quickly discover that the 'prison' is actually a secret cloning facility with plenty of deformed genetic experiments and mutants on hand.  A chaotic and hyper-violent prison break provides the film's climax.
