The set features card designs that celebrate the game's first anniversary with leaders that have alternate-art original comic illustrations. There are also special cards with new embossing and cards drawn by Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. This set also introduces characters Enel, Sabo, and Koala to the game and offers new deck themes like a blue Animal Kingdom Pirates deck or a purple Straw Hat Crew deck.
The rarities for Awakening of a New Era breakdown as follows: 6 Leaders, 45 commons, 30 uncommons, 26 rares, 10 super rares, 2 secret rares, 6 special cards, a DON!! card, and a 1st Anniversary Special card. Packs come with 12 cards, and 24 packs come to a booster box.
