The 1992 thriller Basic Instinct is coming to comics, Deadline reports, with a new comic series to be published by Sumerian Comics starting in November. The writer for the series is Sam Freeman, the artist is Vanesa R. Del Rey, and the colorist is Keyla Valerio. Cover artists will include Brao, Chuma Hill, Alberto Massaggia, Patricia Martin, Andrea Milana and Lorenzo Colangeli.
The Basic Instinct comic is not a straight adaptation but a continuation of the story of the main character, Catherine Trammell (played by Sharon Stone), a writer who is the main suspect in the murder of a rock star. The comic follows an artist whose work is inspired by famous murders, including Trammell's case. On the opening night of an exhibit about the "Icepick Murders," a security guard is murdered, and the art director responsible for the show is drawn into an investigation of what has happened.
Sumerian Comics, formerly known as Behemoth Comics, is an imprint of Sumerian Records and is being distributed by Massive (see “Exclusive: Massive Announces New Imprints, Flagship Launch Title”). The publisher is currently focusing on licensed properties.
