Comics industry veteran Spencer Simpson has joined Oni Press as their new Vice President of Sales, overseeing Oni’s operations in the direct market, the book channel, and digital platforms.
Simpson comes to Oni from DC Comics, where he was Director, Sales and Marketing (see “Spencer Simpson Named Director of Sales at DC”).
A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Simpson worked at the retail chain Books-A-Million for eight years, most of that time as buyer. During that time he helped expand the chain’s graphic novel and single-issue comics business and created the Fried Pie program that highlighted major releases from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Image Comics, among others. He moved to BOOM! Studios in 2018, where he was the company’s inaugural Sales Manager and was promoted to Sales Director in 2020.
"Spencer's keen understanding of the comics marketplace has been an instrumental part of some of our industry's biggest success stories of the modern era—from BRZRKR and Something Is Killing the Children to Batman/Fortnite and Wonder Woman: Historia—and his considerable talents are a massive boon to our ambitious plans for the future of Oni Press," said Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson.
