Marvel Comics’ newest What If?... series has the Venom symbiote taking a new path through the Marvel Universe after it fails to bond with Eddie Brock (as happened in the main continuity). The limited series What If?...Venom!, by writer Jeremy Holt and artist Jesús Hervás, shows what it would look like if the symbiote had bonded with She-Hulk, Wolverine, Doctor Strange, Loki, or Moon Knight, and how each of those characters would have reacted to their new powers. The five-issue limited series will launch on February 28, 2024, and the first issue will have a cover by Leinil Francis Yu.
“Having the opportunity to play within the Venom sandbox is cool. Having the opportunity to bond five iconic heroes to the alien parasite is cooler,” Holt said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “In doing so within the What If…? concept, I’ve had an absolute blast crafting a linear revisionist history that’s provided me the latitude to introduce distinct versions of the anti-hero that we’ve all come to love.”
Holt contributed to Marvel’s Voices: Spider-Verse #1 (see “Preview: ‘Marvel’s Voices: Spider-Verse’ #1”) and wrote the graphic novel Skip to the End (see “Graphic Novel Inspired by Nirvana Will ‘Skip to the End’”), published by Insight Comics. Hervás is the artist for the upcoming Oni Press miniseries Invasive, written by Cullen Bunn (see “Oni Announces Five New Miniseries”).
