Marjane Satrapi returns to graphic novels with Woman, Life, Freedom, coming in March 2024 from Seven Stories Press.  Satrapi is author of the award-winning graphic memoir Persepolis (see “‘Complete Persepolis’ Coming to Hardcover”).  Here, she edits, introduces, and contributes to an anthology covering the current Iranian revolution, translated from the French by Una Dimitrijević.

This collaboration of over 20 activists, artists, journalists, and academics depicts the protests that broke out after the murder of Mahsa Amini.  The student was arrested in Tehran in September 2022 for not properly wearing her headscarf and beaten by the religious police before dying three days later. “Woman, Life, Freedom” is the slogan of the protestors.

The full-color collection of illustrated essays and comics includes contributions from Joann Sfar, Coco, Mana Neyastani, Catel, Pascal Rabate, Patricia Bolanos, Paco Roca, Bahareh Akrami, Hippolyte, Shabnam Adiban, Lewis Trondheim, Winshluss, Touka Neyastani, Bee, Deloupy, Nicolar Wild, Hamoun, and Satrapi.  The 280-page paperback, priced at $35.95, is due out March 19, 2024, coinciding with Nowruz, the Iranian New Year.
