Board & Dice has announced Windmill Valley, a game about farming tulips in the Netherlands created by Dani Garcia, the designer of Barcelona. Windmill Valley is scheduled to release in June.
In Windmill Valley, the players become tulip farmers in the late 19th Century, setting up their farms along the “Bloemen Route”, the heart of the historic tulip-craze financial bubble. In order to expand their farms, they will use windmills to drain and maintain their polders, land reclaimed from the sea with dikes. Meanwhile, they will invest in exotic tulip bulbs, hire workers for their fields, and make contracts to deliver their goods. The game uses a set of interlocking gears that players use to determine their actions on their turn, and players can enhance their gears during the game to improve their engine.
Windmill Valley includes 1 main gameboard, 4 dual-layered player boards, 36 wooden windmill tokens, 200 tulip bulb tokens, 45 other tokens, 63 tiles, and 40 cards. It is intended for 1 to 4 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in around an hour.
Board & Dice recently launched a series of puzzle games inspired by popular tabletop games (see “Board & Dice Launching ‘Side Quest’ Line”). Garcia’s Barcelona released last summer (see “Modernize ‘Barcelona’”).
