Twin sisters and musical duo Tegan and Sara have announced their second graphic novel, Crush, which will be published by First Second Books on October 1, 2024. The book is a followup to Junior High, which was published by First Second in 2023 (see “New Graphic Novel from Indie-Pop Duo Tegan and Sara”), and Tillie Walden will return as the artist. Junior High was a fictionalized account of the twins’ seventh-grade year. Crush is set in eighth grade, and in addition to the usual middle school drama of crushes and friends, the story follows Tegan and Sara’s musical career as they participate in a battle of the bands that opens up new opportunities but also new conflicts. The 240-page book, rated for readers aged 10-14, will be released in two formats, a hardcover with an MSRP of $22.99 and a paperback with an MSRP of $14.99.
Tegan and Sara are identical twins and indie-pop musicians who have released ten albums and are outspoken advocates on LGTBQ+ issues. Their prose memoir High School debuted at number 15 on the New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction best-seller list. It won an Alex Award, the American Library Association’s award for adult books with teen appeal, and was adapted into a television series that premiered on Amazon Freevee in 2022.
