Abrams Children’s Books is launching a graphic novel imprint, as Macmillan picks up the Balzer + Bray imprint, in two moves announced by major book houses to expand their kids graphic novel lines.
Abrams’ new kids graphic novel imprint, tagged Abrams Fanfare, will feature graphic novels for range of ages, from early readers to young adults. The new imprint will launch in Fall 2024 with a raft of new titles, including:
Adventuregame Comics: Samurai vs. Ninja by Jason Shiga, and Black Lives: Great Minds of Science, written by Tonya Bolden with art by David Wilkerson, will be released in August 2024.
The Mythmakers: The Remarkable Fellowship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, by John Hendrix, will be released in September.
A Mighty Marvel Team-Up Box Set, by Mike Maihack (see "Fall Catalog Includes Marvel Graphic Novels"), will be released in October.
Astrid & Stella: Comet Together!, by Eunice and Sabrina Moyle, will be released in January 2025.
Other titles announced for future seasons include a young adult murder mystery by Mariko Tamaki and Nicole Goux, an adaption of Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness series; a middle-grade fantasy from Larry Hama; and licensed works tied to Disney, Paramount, marvel, and Universal properties, among others.
Existing titles from Abrams Children’s lines will also be moved to the Fanfare imprint, including the Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales series, El Deafo, and others.
Meanwhile, Allessandra Balzer and Donna Bray are moving their Balzer + Bray kids imprint to Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group from HarperCollins. Balzer and Bray will be SVP and Co-Publishers of the imprint at Macmillan. The line, while mostly prose, includes the bestselling Emmie & Friends graphic novel series by Terri Libenson (see "June 2023 BookScan – Top 20 Kids Graphic Novels").
