A CGC 8.5 copy of Action Comics #1 set a new record price for a comic in Heritage Auctions’ Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction yesterday. The comic, from the Kansas City Pedigree, hammered at $6 million, moving up from the early bids, which passed $5 million (see “Bids Fly Past $5 Million”). The CGC 8.5 grade is the third highest condition grade for a copy of Action Comics #1.
The price easily tops the previous record for a comic, a CGC 8.0 copy of Superman #1, which sold for $5.3 million in early 2022 (see “’Superman’ #1 Most Expensive Comic Ever”).
The previous high for a copy of Action Comics #1, of which less than 100 copies are known to have survived, was $3.4 million for a CGC 6.0 copy in 2022 (see “‘Action Comics’ #1 Sells for $3.4 Million”).
Other notable Thursday prices were $432,000 for a CGC 9.6 copy of The Avengers #1, $420,000 for a CGC 9.6 copy of Justice League of America #1, $420,000 for a CGC 9.6 copy of Sensation Comics #1 (Wonder Woman’s second appearance), and $360,000 for a CGC 9.8 copy of Daredevil #1.
