Rio Grande Games will release a new edition of History of the World, designed by Ragnar Brothers (Stephen Kendall, Phil Kendall, and Gary Dicken), in January. The first edition was published in 1991, and multiple versions were later published by Avalon Hill.
The game tells the story of humanity beginning with ancient Sumeria and ending with modern U.S.; over sixty peoples are featured on Empire and Event cards. Players collect gold through control of buildings and lands, and whoever has the most gold when the game ends is the winner.
While the new design keeps the spirit of the game intact and incorporates elements from the very earliest versions, the new edition has a number of major differences, including with or without dice rules, distribution of Empire and Event cards, new Event cards, Gold collection mechanics, new Area tokens strategy, new Honor tokens provide benefits, and new player array.
History of the World is for 2-6 players and plays in over 120 minutes. It will be released in January 2025 at $79.95 MSRP.
