“I have always wanted to bring the Survivor experience to at-home audiences, but condensing a multi-week game to less than 30 minutes has been challenging,” Exploding Kittens Co-Founder and CEO Elan Lee said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “After two years of working closely with Jeff Probst, we’ve finally done it…with all the fun, strategy, alliances, and betrayal packed into a beautiful box.”
Players collect advantages, find immunity idols, form secret alliances, and deal with blindsides, while surviving Tribal Council eliminations. The final two players make a case for why they should be the Sole Survivor.
Game elements from the show include player cards based on well-known contestants from the series, and the Tribal Council, where players decide who gets voted out by dropping secret votes into the box, which doubles as a “voting urn.” Cards in the game include Reward Challenges, which require cooperation with other players; “Sorry for You,” which blocks opponents from stealing your cards; “The Spy Shack,” which lets you see other players’ hands and steal a card; and bonus cards that allow players to steal or manipulate votes, declare themselves Tribal Council Leader, or that protect you or a player of your choice from being voted off.Walmart, Target, and Amazon are currently taking preorders and will have the game available on January 12. Asked about distribution to FLGSs, a spokesperson for Exploding Kittens told ICv2 that the game “…will be available for game stores to purchase once it’s officially released in January.”
Survivor The Tribe Has Spoken is for 3-6 players ages 8 and up and takes 30-60 minutes to play. MSRP will be $19.99.
