Satoshi Kon's animated feature Paprika was the only anime out of sixteen films chosen for consideration for nomination in the animated feature film category of the 2007 Academy Awards.  According to Variety, five out of the sixteen films will be nominated for the award.  In order to make the film eligible for the Academy Award Sony Pictures Classics plans to give Paprika a limited theatrical opening in the L.A. area starting on November 20th.

Paprika was recently awarded an 'R' rating by the MPAA for violence and sexual content.  Among the 16 films considered for nomination only Paprika and Warner Independent Picture's A Scanner Darkly target an adult audience.
