Sponsored. The Tales of the Valiant roleplaying game from Kobold Press is available from retailers on July 17. One of the most respected fifth edition publishers launches a new 5E-compatible roleplaying game. Tales of the Valiant RPG lets you advance your game, while keeping all your other 5E materials relevant and useful.
The Tales of the Valiant RPG comes in two core books: the Player’s Guide and Monster Vault. The Player’s Guide includes 13 base classes, lineages, and heritages from classic fantasy roleplaying, and all the rules you need to be a player or GM in one volume. Try out the new Luck feature to replace inspiration, or play the new mechanist base class to bring a touch of magic-style tech to your fantasy game.
The Monster Vault includes more than 400 dungeon-crawling fantasy creature any GM needs to craft compelling fantasy encounters. It also includes concrete advice on making challenging encounters and using the new Doom trait for powerful monsters.
Dozens of adventures are available for the game now, both from Kobold Press and from publishing partners such as Steamforged Games, DMDave, Lazy Wolf Studios, Legendary Games, Ghostfire Gaming, and many more. There's no shortage of support material to let you hit the ground moving at a full 30 feet.
Further support will roll out rapidly this summer.
Campaign Builder: Castles & Crowns will appear in August, giving GMs in-depth advice and tools for creating their own homebrew nations and politics, as well as expanding on royal magic, aristocratic plots, and a range of drop-in NPCs—and a full set of noble castles, palaces, and other locales in battle map size as part of the Castles & Crowns Map Folio. A free kingdom tracker sheet is available now.
The Game Master's Guide will arrive in September (around the same time another 5E game gets its player’s book out). The GMG will contain a suite of advanced tools for GMs to customize their own games, including monster templates, spell and item creation, underwater combat, social encounters, fabled items, and much more for advanced players and GMs.
And, of course, the Tales of the Valiant game is based on Black Flag Roleplaying, the underlying engine that is open and free for anyone to use. Write, publish, and monetize your own ToV-compatible creations using the Black Flag Roleplaying Resource Document (BFRD).
Kobold Press has been a respected publisher of quality 5E material for years. Its monster books, such as Creature Codex and Tome of Beasts 1, 2, and 3 are gold standard monster books for GMs everywhere and are widely considered best of breed. Tome of Beasts 1 is featured on D&D Beyond, and all four titles are available on major virtual platforms including Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, Foundry, and Shard Tabletop.
Kobold Press made an open, free-to-play version of 5E D&D called Black Flag Roleplaying.
But we wanted to take it further and follow our own vision for what fantasy gaming could become. So we created a distinct game out of Black Flag Roleplaying, that we call the Tales of the Valiant (ToV) roleplaying game. ToV is Kobold’s baby, and literally anyone can publish compatible material using the BFRD.
The hardcover Tales of the Valiant books arrive in game and hobby stores on July 17. Gather your friends and journey together across a labyrinth of worlds in search of adventure! Visit TalesOfTheValiant.com for more information or buy the Tales of the Valiant PDFs from the Kobold Press store today.
