Fox is shuffling the X-Men-related film schedule again, a move that was announced at the same time director Gore Verbinski exited the Gambit solo film project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool 2, The New Mutants, and Gambit have all been re-slotted with new opening dates.
- Gambit, starring Channing Tatum, will be pushed back from February 4, 2019 to June 7, 2019 (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2019”). Gore Verbinski, who signed on to direct the project in October (see “'Gambit,' 'Bob's Burgers,' 'Avatar 2,' 'Venom,' 'Sonic the Hedgehog'”) has left, amicably, according to Deadline, due to scheduling conflicts.
- Deadpool 2 is being moved forward from June 1 to May 18, putting it just ahead of Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2018”).
- The New Mutants, a "horror-tinged" take on the teen hero group (see “First 'The New Mutants' Trailer”) has been pushed back 10 months from April 13, 2018 to February 22, 2019 (see “Best in Shows--Q1 2019”).
