Two things that haven’t been happening with much regularity came together in comic stores in May, as comics and graphic novel sales rose for a second straight month, and Marvel had a dominant month.

May was a big month for Marvel Comics and VIZ Media in their respective categories, and in the more diverse realm of Author graphic novels, Image Comics holds sway.

Superhero and author graphic novels divide neatly into winners and losers, while manga are a bit more complicated.

Diamond Comic Distributors announced the titles for this year's Halloween ComicFest (HCF) which takes place on Saturday, October 27 at participating comic shops.

Two superhero properties, Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War, take the first and third spots on the May graphic novel chart.

This week’s home entertainment releases include a rebooted Tomb Raider, a sensitive coming-of-age saga from Green Lantern scribe Greg Berlanti, the disc debut of the superb Netflix/Dreamworks’ revival of Voltron, as well as the third season of Syfy horror anthology series Channel Zero, and the second season of the new Berserk anime.

This week's home entertainment offerings include a rare ambitious misfire from Disney, Ana Duvernay's A Wrinkle in Time, a disparate bunch of crime films including the Bruce Willis Death Wish and the indie black comedy Thoroughbreds, plus the latest season of South Park and the complete run of the Hulu adult animated superhero comedy series The Awesomes.

We’re moving into high manga/anime season with last week’s Anime Central in Chicago, and Anime Expo coming up in July.
