Jim Jones of Comic Quest in Evansville, Indiana, shares his experience with Free Comic Book Day 2008 (see “National Comics Holiday this Weekend”), and says it was the “best FCBD ever!!!”

BEST FCBD EVER!!!

Our response was very positive this year in large part due to the appearance of Billy Tucci (Shi, Sgt. Rock) and Jason Craig (Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash).  We had a large crowd for the first five hours who received free comics, took pictures with the costumed characters and marveled at the comic book creators present.  It has to be said that Billy Tucci is one of the nicest people in comics today, and Jason Craig's talent is such that I highly recommend everyone having him in their store for a signing.  Billy's Sgt. Rock pages looked phenomenal and you can tell it is a character that is close to his heart.

We gave away thousands of comics and made many memories among the hundreds of customers who attended. The local Comic Creator's Group debuted their Dead Ranger #1 comic book and showed off their artwork. Small press and independent publishers showcased their wares, including Allen Freeman of Fan Attic Press, Michael Kasinger (Koni-Waves), Joseph Morris of Torc Press, Sean Delaney of Markosia Comics, Nathan Bonner (Indavo), and Michael Basinger of Cosmic Moustache Comics.

Having an athletic and muscular Spider-Man who can turn flips and walk on his hands doesn't hurt anything either.  Along with Spidey we had a female Green Lantern and Ghost Rider along with a bevy of Star Wars Fan Club characters including Darth Vader, storm-troopers, and Luke.  The event was videotaped by two different television stations that aired segments later that day.  It was a very good day indeed.

Now... how to top this next year?
