Paramount has decided to bring G.I. Joe back for a second tour of duty on the silver screen. Although it took a beating from the critics, last summer’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra managed to earn over $302 million at the box office worldwide. Stephen Sommers, who directed The Rise of Cobra, has expressed an interest in returning, but no announcement has been made yet.
According to Variety, Paramount has hired Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to write the screenplay for a second movie based on Hasbro’s action-figure-turned-movie-star. Reese and Wernick have also been tapped to write the X-Men spin-off film Deadpool for Fox.
