Paramount has acquired the screen rights to Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter, a coffee table book created by Daniel LuVisi and published by Heavy Metal Publishing.  Heavy Metal launched the property in an interesting way with a 230-page art book, which is the “bible” for the graphic novel/comic book series to come.  The volume of concept art reportedly sold out at Comic-Con and set off a spirited bidding war among the studios.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Paramount plans on developing the LMS (Last Man Standing) property into a multiplatform franchise with motion pictures and video games being the most obvious options.  Heavy Metal plans to publish LMS comic books and graphic novels, but no exact schedule has been released yet.

Set 600 years in the future, Last Man Standing is the saga of Gabriel, a super soldier created to win a war between Earth and Mars.  After insuring victory for Terran forces, he returns to Earth only to be falsely accused of committing a heinous crime and slapped into prison.  His escape and efforts to clear his name and exact revenge on those responsible for his imprisonment form the core of the first LMS saga.
