Ilan Strasser of Fat Moose Comics and Games in Whippany, New Jersey read Chris Walsh's comments regarding the January solicitations (see "Chris Walsh from B-Bop Comics South on January 2011 Solicitations") and has more to say about the price cuts.
I hadn't had a chance to see the comparative price breakdowns for January yet, so thank you to Chris Walsh for providing that timely info. I just want to remind everyone that without sweeping editorial changes as well, the price cuts will have only one positive effect: those on the cusp of leaving the hobby will stay longer. But I don't believe a significant percentage of previous buyers and/or collectors will return, assuming they find out about the price reductions in the first place.
In the meantime, the drop in revenue also means that you will have to sell approximately 1/3 more books to make the same net profit as you did at the higher price point. Disney has left Marvel to its own devices since acquiring the company. Maybe it's time the Mouse looked at The House of Ideas and renovated it.
