Comic-Con News: Dynamite Entertainment announced today that visual effects company Rhythm & Hues has acquired screen and video rights to the Chastity comic book series. While the Oscar-winning effects company, which just emerged from bankruptcy when it was acquired by Prana Studios, is talking about both movie and TV adaptations, the fact that Emmy Award winner Scott Winant, whose credits include thirtysomething, My So Called Life, and True Blood is attached indicates that the small screen might be the first destination for the property. Having Winant on board as a showrunner and director is certainly a positive sign for the project.
The Chastity comic book series was originally published by Chaos Comics. The character of the abused girl who ran away and became a punk rock vampire appeared first in Evil Ernie: Straight to Hell in 1996 before getting her own book in 1997. Dynamite acquired the property in 2010. With Jimmy Palmiotti shopping a Painkiller Jane screenplay there appears to be no shortage of projects based on 1990s bad girls in Hollywood.
