An announcement in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original manga magazine indicates that a new anime series based on Takahashi Rumiko Gekijo (Rumiko Takahashi's Theater) will be broadcast in Japan later this summer. Known as 'the Princess of Manga,' Rumiko Takahashi has created some of the best manga (and anime) series of our era including Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma, and Inu-Yasha. It is likely that the new series is based on the numerous manga short stories that Takahashi has written over the years (some of which were published here in the U.S. by Viz as Rumiko Takahashi's Rumic Theater). This would mean that the anime series would be more like one of those anthology TV drama series from the 1950s such as the Twilight Zone, rather than an on-going, long form continuity series with continuing characters like Inu-Yasha, which is currently a key part of the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block.
