Archaia and the Jim Henson Company will release Jim Henson's The Musical Monsters of Turkey Hollow, a new graphic novel by Roger Langridge, in October, according to USA Today. The OGN will be based on an unproduced screenplay from the Henson archives.
The unproduced, 1960s-era screenplay was written by Henson and Jerry Juhl, and planned as a holiday TV special with puppets. Langridge is penning the graphic novel, and the Henson Company is currently working on a small-screen adaptation as well.
Langridge (Muppets, Snarked) has been busy in the last year, with the new Rocky & Bullwinkle comic (see "New 'Rocky & Bullwinkle' Comics"), work for The Guardian (see "'The Guardian' Matches 'Literary' Authors and Comic Book Artists"), and the release of his new Muppet Show hardcover (see "Langridge 'Muppets' Hardcover").
Some may recall this is not the first graphic novel adaptation of Jim Henson’s unproduced work, as the critically acclaimed 2011 A Tale of Sand, also from Archaia (see "'A Tale of Sand'") won big at both the 2012 Eisner Awards (see "24th Annual Eisner Award Winners") and Harvey Awards (see "2012 Harvey Award Winners").
The story, set in 1968, takes place in the small town of Turkey Hollow, where hundreds of years ago, a meteorite landed outside of town. Just before Thanksgiving, while Timmy Henderson is practicing his guitar by the brook, he is suddenly accompanied by strange musical sounds, which come from strange extra-terrestrial monsters who hatched from the meteorite egg. Timmy befriends the creatures, but not everyone in town is as friendly, as the monsters are blamed for the sudden disappearance of the town’s turkeys--right before Thanksgiving!
The 96-page hardcover will have an MSRP of $24.99.
