The anime series Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) is headed for the premium cable channel ShowtimeNext, where it will be broadcast on weekdays during November. Coincidentally on December 2 Tokyopop is releasing the first GTO anime box set, which will contain episodes 1-23 of the 43-episode series on five DVDs along with a Great Teacher Onizuka t-shirt. The box set contains over 500 minutes of anime and carries a list price of $99.98. Noriyuki Abe, who directed the popular Yu Yu Hakusho anime series, also directed GTO. The story of Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old former biker, who brings his street smarts and attitude to the classroom, the GTO anime series was so popular in Japan that it inspired a live action drama series.
