Lisa Kirby, daughter of the late Jack (King) Kirby, announced the creation of the Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center (JKMRC), 'devoted to promoting and encouraging the study, understanding, preservation and appreciation of the work of comicbook creator Jack Kirby.' Kirby described the motivation for the Center. 'In the years since his death in 1994, there have been a number of high profile movies featuring properties and characters Dad created, but he has, for the most part, not been featured in the movies' promotion,' she said. 'In that respect, my family and I were excited by the creation of a non-profit educational organization devoted to Dad's work.'
Among the projects cited in the announcement are a complete online catalogue of Kirby's works (using TwoMorrows' Jack Kirby Checklist as a starting point); a Kirby biographical presentation; and exhibits and papers in conjunction with museums, conferences, and conventions.
The Center's work will be spearheaded by cartoonist and Web designer Randolph Hoppe and TwoMorrow's publisher/editor John Morrow.
The announcement also pays tribute to Kirby collaborators Joe Simon and Stan Lee, and expresses a wish for the two to collaborate with the Center in its work.
