With North American TCG sales slipping, miniatures were the largest hobby games category to show growth in 2024, although the sales increase was slight, from $570 million in 2023 to $580 in 2024, according to ICv2 estimates. This follows a spectacular 2023, when miniatures sales were up 9% and grew at the fastest rate of any hobby games category (see "Miniatures the Strongest in 2023"). Sales in the category remain up over 60% from sales in 2019.
Games Workshop sales led the way, with sales up over 10% in North America for the period in 2024, mostly offset by declines in other lines. The Games Workshop increases were attributable to a full year of releases in the new Warhammer 40,000 edition, and a new edition of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, which launched int he first half of the year.
Two 2024 miniatures game launches did well: Renegade Games’ Heroscape, and Mantic Games Halo: Flashpoint. "The new Halo: Flashpoint release had strong interest and sales," a distributor said.
The other new market entrant was the relaunch of Warmachine, purchased from Privateer Press by Steamforged Games (see "Steamforged Acquires").
Sales of D&D miniatures did not seem to get a big lift from the release of Dungeons & Dragons 2024, but they were already at a high level, and perhaps off their peak.
After several years of rapid growth, BattleTech seemed to stabilize at a high level in 2024.
Marvel Crisis Protocol continues to sell well behind an ever-growing line of characters.
