Both Universal and Pixar announced last week that they are pushing their key animation releases for 2014 back to 2015. Universal’s untitled Minions spin-off from the Despicable Me franchise has been moved back from December 19, 2014 to July 10, 2015, according to Hollywood Reporter. The franchise has done pretty well in that window; Despicable Me 2 grossed over $800 million after its July release this year (see "Few Winners at the Summer Box Office").
Pixar also moved its key 2014 release: The Good Dinosaur will now release November 25, 2015, moved back from May 30, 2014, according to Variety. This will be the first year since 2005 without a Pixar release.
Despite the move of these two potential blockbusters, 2014 will not be totally without major animation releases. Scheduled releases include the LEGO Movie on February 7th, Mr. Peabody & Sherman on March 7th, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 on June 13th.
