ADV Films is set to release the 8-disk compilation of the Neon Genesis Evangelion television series on April 9.  Created by Studio Gainax, Neon Genesis Evangelion was the dominant Japanese TV anime of the 90s, a layered science fiction saga directed by Hideaki Anno (Gunbuster).  While Evangelion may not be the 'last word' on the surprisingly resilient giant robo genre, it defined the genre for our time by adding depth of character (and a large dose of teenage angst) as well as layers of psychological profundity and more symbolism than Alan Moore's Watchmen.  The eight individually packaged DVDs come in a black and red foil decorated box with the NERV logo.  The boxed set carries a suggested retail price of $169.98.

The box set will include the re-mastered Volume 1 of the series and all eight volumes will sport a classy uniform spine design.  Look for more details on the special features included in set in the near future.
