Deadline founder Nikki Finke made headlines last month when she supposedly spoilered Warner Bros.’ planned San Diego Comic-Con announcement of upcoming DC films (see "Warners' DC Film Schedule"), but the actual Warner Bros. panel contained no announcement, but two bits of DC film-related news did surface over the weekend: a writer for Justice League, and an update on del Toro’s Dark Universe project.
THR is reporting that Warner Bros. is in talks with Oscar-winning Argo writer Chris Terrio to pen the film. Terrio recently did a rewrite on Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, ostensibly to set up the Justice League lead-in, which will also be directed by Zack Snyder (see "'Justice League' Movie Announced").
Guillermo del Toro has been rumored to be working on a Dark Universe film, which will include Swamp Thing, The Demon, Deadman, The Spectre, Zatanna, and Constantine (see "Del Toro's DC Movie"). "I’m still working on it," del Toro told Coming Soon.net. "We have Deadman, we have the Demon, we have Swamp Thing, we have Zatana, we have Constantine, but DC and Warners have been very clear that they are trying to keep those properties separate so when the time comes they can unite them, once they know they're quantifiable. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern... everyone eventually will come together. Right now, they're allowing us independence."
With Constantine set to premiere on the small screen this fall (see "'Constantine' Comic-Con Trailer"), that seems to complicate things, but del Toro addressed that as well. "No, I had that conversation when the Constantine show was pitched. I said, 'Do I have to have continuity with that?' and they said, 'No, feel free to continue the way you're going.'"
