Flagged by a splashy ad during the NCAA National Championship Game Monday night, Disney announced that it will release the first six Star Wars films in Digital HD for the first time this Friday. Titled The Star Wars Digital Movie Collection, consumers will be able to purchase the films as a set or individually.
New bonus material will be released with the films in this format, including Star Wars: Discoveries from Inside and Conversations between the Star Wars artists that helped Lucas bring the universe to life. Classic Star Wars extras will also be included with each film. Extras may vary by retailer, according to the announcement.
This, of course, is only one aspects of Disney’s massive run-up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18 (see "'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Teaser").
