BBC America has named the new companion for Doctor Who’s Twelfth Doctor, and her name is Bill.
Bill will be played by actress Pearl Mackie, who described her character as “(f)antastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in.”
Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer of the show had some kind welcoming remarks to share. “A new face in the TARDIS, a new voyage about to begin: welcome aboard the amazing Pearl Mackie! This is where the story really starts.”
Moffat announced he’s leaving the series after the 10th season (see “Shake Up at 'Doctor Who'”).
The potent Doctor Who franchise releases a constant stream of licensed merchandise which keeps viewers and fans engaged. Some of the most recent products include a new board game (see “New 'Doctor Who' Game By Jeff Tidball”), periodicals tied to the third annual Doctor Who Comics Day on Saturday, July 9 (see “Summer 'Doctor Who' Crossover Has Four Doctors”) and a comic for the Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood coming later this year (see “'Torchwood' Returns”).
