The fifth expansion for Fantasy Flight’s Cthulhu Mythos dice game Elder Sign will be Omens of the Deep.

The new expansion is set on the ill-fated research ship Ultima Thule, which has set out for the Pacific Ocean under the direction of the mad Dr. Mason Phillips and his obsession to find the forbidden city of R’lyeh.  When playing with this expansion, players first navigate the uncharted Dark Waters in search of the sunken city.  Then, in the second phase of the game, they must construct the Amulet of R’lyeh and use it to prevent the slumbering Ancient One from awakening.

Omens of the Deep offers a number of new challenges for the players, including new Mythos cards, three new Ancient Ones, dangers that are hidden until an investigator enters their area and the Deep One Legion, which seeks to overrun the Ultima Thule and destroy the players’ safe haven.  New resources in the form of items, eight new investigators, allies, and spells round out the expansion.

The new expansion can be used in games with 1 to 8 players, and is recommended for ages 12 and up.  Playing time is 1 to 2 hours.  MSRP is $24.95. Release is planned for Q1.

The last Elder Sign expansion was Omens of Ice, released earlier this year (see “Winter Storms Hit ‘Elder Sign’”).
