Warner Bros. declined to comment on the project, reportedly a multiple-camera sitcom, but Family Guy executive producer Gary Janetti has been hired to run the show. Janetti joins Back to the Future helmer Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke (Flight) as executive producers.
The Jetsons animated series ran 1962-1963 on ABC primetime as a space-age counterpart to The Flinstones. It then ran for decades as a part of Saturday morning programming, first on ABC then on CBS and NBC. Between 1985 and 1987, Hanna-Barbera produced new episodes specifically for syndication. A feature animated film was released in 1990. The cast of the series included voice actor extraordinaire Mel Blanc.
The property has had a few fitful starts over the last few years, with an animated project from Matt Lieberman (see “Warner Bros. Prepping New 'Jetsons' Animated Feature”) and a live-action film once in development (see “Rodriguez to Helm Live Action 'Jetsons?'”).
Most recently, Warner Bros. announced that a new Jetsons animated feature was being developed by Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon (see “'The Jetsons' Movie Takes Off”).
