Oni Press will release O’Neill’s graphic novel on October 18 (see “ ‘The Tea Dragon Society’ by Katie O’Neill” and “Preview: ‘The Tea Dragon Society’ HC”). The book tells the story of apprentice blacksmith Greta and her discovery of the nearly-lost art of tea dragon care. Oni Press’ game division, Oni Games, has partnered with Renegade and designers Steve Ellis and Tyler Tinsley (the creative team behind Dicey Goblins) to create a card game based on the book.
In a press release, O’Neill praised the new game, saying, “… as soon as I’d finished my first round I felt like I’d just spent a dreamy afternoon in the world of the Tea Dragons. Everything fit the lore so perfectly, and it felt so magical and special to have such a thoughtful game based around the world I had made built by talented game designers!”
The Tea Dragon Society Card Game is scheduled to release next spring.
This will not be the first time that Oni and Renegade have collaborated on a game project. Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game is expected to hit the streets on October 11 (see “Bryan Lee O’Malley’s ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Levels Up in Life”).
