Perhaps The Walking Dead Season 8 hasn’t “already won” (see “'Walking Dead' Season 8 Teaser”). The eighth season opener -- and the show’s 100th episode -- posted the series’ lowest ratings since the Season 3 opener. Variety reports that the Season 8 premiere drew a 5.0 rating the in 18-49 demographic and 11.4 million total live and same-day viewers, down significantly from the 17 million viewers who took in the Season 7 premiere (granted, the Season 7 premiere resolved a major cliffhanger, while the Season 8 premiere did not). Despite the steep decline, The Walking Dead is still the top-rated show in the coveted 18-49 demographic.

The Season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead is also down in viewership in one other category: piracy via BitTorrent. Global piracy of the episode was down 42% from the Season 7 opener reports Variety. A mere 774,685 users downloaded the episode illegally compared to 1.33 million illegal views for the Season 7 debut.
